This past weekend the ISA Barcelona team took us on an amazing excursion to Valencia, Spain; a city filled with a beautifully diverse mix of modern and historic sights.
Our first day began with a tour of the historic part of Valencia. We climbed to the top of an old stone bell tower and had an amazing panoramic view of the city!
We walked around the narrow streets of El Barrio del Carmen, and of course had to try to the deliciously famous drink of Valencia, Orxata de Chufa, which translates to “tigernut’s milk” in English. It is made out of chufas (tigernuts), water, and sugar and has a rich nutty flavor.
After seeing the old part of the city we ventured down the river bed park, a long stretch of green space and pathways that divides the modern and historic sections. There were so many people walking, exercising, or just enjoying the views as the sun set over the city.
As night fell we made our way into the town square, where a group of Valencian street musicians dressed in traditional wear performed a variety of classic Spanish folk songs and invited the crowd to clap and dance along.
On the second day of our excursion, ISA drove us out to the small coastal town of Peñíscula. There we visited the famous Castle of Papa Luna, a historic fortress that was recently used in an episode of the epic drama, Game of Thrones!
Overall the trip was an amazing experience, I am so happy I got to see, hear, and taste the traditions of Valencia while learning so much about its history.
The world awaits…discover it.
