Abby Comeau is an ISA Senior Site Specialist for Europe. Abby works with students studying abroad in France and Ireland.

Paris’ nimble alleyways and spacious boulevards are seamlessly woven together by the brush strokes of painters who have shaken history, and defined artistic expression as we know it today. For centuries, this salacious queen of the European continent has been at the center of almost every movement in western art. From Paris’ artistic influence during the Middle Ages to revolutionary cubism in the 1930s, Paris has continually nurtured artists and their craft. The city’s beauty combined with its vibrant artistic community attracted such masters as Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Chagall, all of whom found a muse in Paris’ breathtaking landscapes.

This summer, allow Paris to become your muse as you paint the city’s timeless landscapes. From beginning students to expert painters, ISA’s painting classes allow every student to experience Paris’ majestic beauty, and discover how this amazing city has transfixed so many that came before.
Class Options:
Get out of the classroom and bring your easel to the historic garden of St. Julien le Pauvre, the Pont des Artistes, the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Jardin des Plantes. Take this class to develop your knowledge of perspective, composition, color and light.
Painting through the Art Movements of Paris
Delve into four movements that were developed in Paris’ artistic communities: Impressionism/Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, and Surrealism. The class will visit a museum at the beginning of each week to study each artistic movement, and then paint a Parisian landscape in the corresponding style.
