On Saturday, December 17th fifteen ISA employees volunteered their time to help build a home for a family in north Austin. They spent the day painting the exterior of the home (including trim and the porch ceiling), caulking, assembling cabinets, putting up doors, painting/attaching baseboards, and digging holes for fence posts.
ISA employee and volunteer Erica Cerza said, ” Habitat for Humanity makes really positive and tangible contributions to local communities, and I like that they involve community members so much in their projects, on so many levels. Habitat is an organization that is really conducive to group volunteering, and I felt that there was enough interest within ISA to lend lots of hands to them.”
After spending a day helping a family in need she said, “It was great; Habitat is really open to ISA and they were excited to have so many of our employees show up. We got to learn new skills, work together and see our results at the end of the day. Our group is really interested in volunteering more with Habitat.”
All employees are part of International Studies Abroad’s Volunteer Committee (Vol Comm) which aims to help the local community through various activities and charitable contributions.
