My first journey outside of France is about to begin. I’m leaving today, in just a few hours, on the way to Brussels. This has been on my mind for a while, and Athena too. The time is finally here, and I can’t wait to get on the train. Athena went through a lot to get to Europe, taking a crappy job at a sleazy restaurant to make the money for the trip. A lot of people in the program escaped to other destinations during their stays, yet their sojourns in Paris, were, for most people, shorter than mine.
Now it’s my turn. I’ve got three weeks of vacation (inter-semester break) and I’m going to try and squeeze every bit of fun from it as possible. Athena has been planning this trip for a long time, and she’s enjoying London and the surrounding areas right now. Yesterday, one day before my departure, I wasn’t prepared to leave; I didn’t have a backpack, or the necessities to support myself on the road, such as food, toilet paper, toiletries, etc. Then Martine came to the rescue.
When I got home after buying some items for my trip, there was a huge backpack on my bed with a sleeping bag. We chatted for a bit, then she proceeded to shove all these items in my hands; food she had purchased for me towels, plastic bags and more food. Now I have enough food for a small army (or just enough for a picnic with friends). This is great because I’m pretty strapped for cash and I’m looking for any way I can save money.
Okay, it’s time for me to go and put this 22 Euro ticket to good use. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of pictures.
