10 Questions to Start Your Study Abroad Discovery

It’s finally that time of year – back to campus! You get to see all your friends, go to football games, attend back to school activities, and so much more.  As fun of a time as it is, we know it can be stressful as well. Between learning a new class schedule and buying new textbooks, picking your study abroad program may feel like another task on your list of things to do. That’s why our goal at ISA is to make that process as easy as possible and remind you of the exciting experience you’re able to have by studying abroad. While there is an ocean of study abroad providers, it can become a confusing task to pick the right program for you. To help ease that confusion, here is a list of important questions you can ask to help narrow down your options.

Use these 10 great questions to get you started:

1.) Will the program offer comprehensive advising support with topics such as selecting the location, navigating the application process, Visa help, and enrolling in courses?

2.) Does the program offer a pre-departure and on-site arrival orientation with important information about your trip?

3.) Does the program offer the support of on-site full-time staff while abroad?

4.) Does the program offer amenities such as a common meeting places, resource centers, and free computer usage or internet access on-site?

5.) Will the program provide transportation from the airport on arrival day?

6.) Will there be excursions organized to locations of cultural significance to help add to your experience?

7.) Does the program organize any on-site local activities?

8.) What scholarship or grant opportunities are available for the program?

9.) What’s included in the program cost? Host university’s tuition, housing, meals, airfare?

10.) Does the program provide a transcript from the host university and easy transferable credits?
