Capturing Emotions Abroad: When Words Aren’t Enough

Kate Luffman is a student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and an ISA Featured Photo Blogger. She is currently studying abroad with ISA Internships in Sydney, Australia.

Sydney, Australia is truly just as beautiful in real life as I thought it would be. Famous for landmarks such as the Harbour Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, Luna Park, and the Botanical Gardens, I ventured here thinking my best photos would be of these well known attractions.

These were the type of photos I thought I would want to share heaps of, because these would be my photos of the Opera House, not ones that are just found on the internet.

After being here for a week with twenty other students from my university, I realized that capturing their emotions abroad was the best way to say how we are all experiencing our life here in Australia.

I believe that being able to step back and see the way these people are admiring things they’ve never seen before shows more about the beauty of the country than a simple photo of any popular attraction here ever could.

It’s been a roller coaster of emotions trying to adjust to a whole new world, but we are all in it together, ready for new adventures and I am glad to be here to make sure every moment lives on forever in a photograph.
