Handmade Goods Highlight – Proyecto Mantay

This fall we will be providing baskets of handmade items to some of our university partners to raffle off during study abroad fairs. The items come from local artisans in locations in which ISA hosts Service Learning programs. Keep an eye out for these at your campus study abroad fair.

This product was handcrafted by young mothers who live at Casa Mantay in Cusco, Peru. The Mantay workshop’s aim is to create jobs for young mothers so that they are able to attain financial independence and social inclusion, while looking after their son or daughter. 100% of their profits go towards supporting the project.

Since its creation in 2016, the Casa Mantay has helped 159 young mothers and their respective children.

The Mantay store was created in 2001 and currently employees 8 women, 6 of whom were previous residents of Casa Mantay.
