Macquarie University – Global Leadership Program (GLP)
Sydney, Australia

Interested in making an impact? Study abroad students at Macquarie University can join the innovative and award-winning extracurricular Global Leadership Program, recognized by the Institute for International Education for its efforts in internationalizing campus.

The leadership program aims to equip students with the essential tools and skills necessary to drive social change and make an impact by focusing on cross-cultural leadership, global issues, and innovative problem-solving. Upon completion students will receive a certificate, reference letters, and an official transcript of completion from the Global Leadership Program.

Students participating on the Macquarie GLP program will attend talks, and tailored presentations from distinguished faculty as well as innovative leaders of social change. A few examples of presentation topics include:

  • Cross-cultural Understanding
  • Responsibilities of a Globalized Citizen
  • A Global Perspective on Climate Justice
  • Introduction to Refugee Law
  • The Power of Language in Leadership

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) – Business Advantage
Brisbane, Australia

The QUT Business School offers students the space to “develop skills through interaction, discussion, cooperation and debate with other students, and business, government, education and community leaders” in the free, co-curricular Business Advantage program. The program features a variety of modules—special topic sessions—that participants may opt to attend based on individual interest. Examples include:

  • Digital Literacy
  • Social Innovation
  • Leading into the Future
  • Branding You – Networking for Career Development
  • The Building Blocks to Entrepreneurship

Participants who complete all required components for one or more modules will receive a certificate of completion, signed by the Dean of the QUT Business School.


University of Canterbury – Professional and Community Engagement opportunities
Christchurch, New Zealand

Students studying at the University of Canterbury have the chance to do more – to not only develop their professional skills, but also get involved in their community.

The PACE 295 Professional and Community Engagement internship gives students the opportunity to apply the skills they have developed through their academic study in for-credit internship with a local business or community group in New Zealand. This internship will allow for personal and career development, giving students a competitive edge upon graduating. Placements can be found in most fields.

University of Canterbury students also have the chance to give back to the community through the CHCH 101 Strengthening Communities through Social Innovation course. In this course, students will participate in hands-on community engagement projects related to the post-earthquake context of Christchurch. This will provide students with an overview of how individuals and organizations are strengthening communities in Christchurch through social innovation.
