Magical Meknes: Diving Deeper with Service – Learning

By Megan Kane, ISA Internships and Service-Learning Outreach Coordinator

From exploring the labyrinthine of Medina to sipping on mint tea in quaint plazas, there are endless ways to connect with the city known as the “Versailles of Morocco”.

Aside from exploring the architecture and cuisine one of the best way to explore Meknesi culture is by getting involved with local community organizations through volunteer work.

Education and Literacy

Created by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the community center focuses on providing education classes and professional training workshops for disadvantage youth. Participants will work with staff to develop educational workshops on topics such as health, music, arts, theater, and sports.

Women’s Empowerment

The women’s empowerment center’s main objective is to help women of all economic levels. Participants will assist with technical workshops such as computer skills, embroidery and English classes. In addition, participants will help with fundraising, marketing and website development to help the women sell their products.

Therapy and Rehabilitation

Established in 1991, the therapy and rehabilitation center provides support and care to children with a wide range of disabilities, including both physical and mental disabilities. Participants will work closely with teachers, counselors and physical therapists to assist with a variety of projects.
