Rome is a beautiful and alluring city. The tiny alleyways, pastel buildings, and breathtaking ruins will win over any visitor.  While there is a quaintness to the city, it is nonetheless a city, which means that at times there can be a lot of people and noise. While I have loved calling this place my home, at times I need to step away from the populated areas and find a quiet spot to refresh. Luckily, Rome is filled with these as well. Here are some of the best spots I have found so far, for those wanting to step away from the city, for just a bit.

1. Villa Doria Pamphili

An afternoon break in Villa Doria Pamphili.

Stone pine trees and vibrant fall leaves make this park absolutely breathtaking. Since it is the largest landscaped park in Rome, there is plenty of space to escape for some quiet time or picnic with a friend.

2. Parco Lineare Ciclopedonale Monte Ciocci- Monte Mario

After meeting people who have lived in Rome for a while, I was introduced to this hidden gem. This small park, with benches beside a bike trail, is an nice spot to come enjoy some pizza and people watch. If you like to bike, you can also take advantage of the trail. Follow a path near the park and you will find a beautiful view of St. Peter’s Basilica.

3. Churches

San Giovanni de’ Fiorentini, a beautiful basilica in Rome.

In Rome, there is a church around every corner. Not only are they breath taking and full of impressive art, but they are also great quiet spots to go to meditate, clear your mind, or pray.

4. Villa Borghese

Carousel fun in Villa Borghese.

On Sundays, this park is full of families enjoying tandem bikes, the carousel, and gorgeous gardens. However, if you walk around long enough, you are bound to find some free green space to claim and enjoy some peaceful and amazing views.

The world awaits…discover it.
