In celebrating ISA’s 30th anniversary in Spain, it is clear that the diversity of populations, cultures, geographies, and languages are what draw students to this special location. In addition to numerous unofficial languages, Spain is home to four official languages: Castilian (Spanish), Basque, Catalan, and Galician. Though Spanish is widely spoken all over the county, this means students have the opportunity to potentially pick up more than one language during their time abroad. For those students whose goals are less focused on language acquisition, eight of our nine study locations even offer courses in English!
The diverse landscape and history of Spanish cities also offers something for every type of student. Granada, home to the historic Alhambra, also has great ski slopes; Bilbao boasts both history and modernity; Salamanca has a medieval feel and the oldest University in Spain; Barcelona is an international and artistic hub; Sevilla, the birthplace of Flamenco, shines along the Guadalquivir River; Málaga, Santander, and Valencia all have beautiful, sunny beaches; and Madrid is a vibrant, bustling metropolis in the center of the country. ISA has programs in all of these locations and students often travel during their free time to experience even more of Spain’s geographic diversity, from islands to mountains to plains.
ISA’s programs in Spain can accommodate the wishes of a myriad of students and is a more affordable option than other locations in Europe. The train system in Spain is wonderful and flying throughout Europe is made easy with low-cost airlines. All of these reasons and more make Spain the ultimate destination for all types of adventurers!
