A Paella Experience

Dawson Hoppes is a student at Biola University and is a current ISA Featured Photo Blogger. He is currently studying abroad with ISA in Barcelona, Spain.

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to go on an ISA Excursion to Valencia.  We learned more about the traditional Spanish dish Paella. I had heard a lot about this type of food before I moved to Spain but I really had no concept of the work required or the tradition behind the food.

The excursion began with the the directors taking us to a farm just outside of Valencia. There we were given the opportunity to learn from locals about the process, ingredients and culture behind Paella. It was such a fun day and they even let us help make the Paella which takes over two hours to complete! We picked vegetables from their farm, played with their animals, and got to go on a horse ride through their orange groves. It was truly an incredible day, and after we finished cooking they served us an 8 course Paella dinner. If you are studying abroad with ISA I highly suggest going on all the preplanned excursions!

Here are some photos that I took throughout the day.

The world awaits…discover it.
