Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum:
The most popular free-to-enter attraction in Scotland, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is located in the West End of the city. Featuring an extensive natural history collection and one of the finest collections of arms and armor in the world, it is pretty easy to spend the whole day amongst the 8000 object and 22 themed galleries found here. The art collection features many Scottish and other European masterpieces, including Christ of Saint John of the Cross by Salvador Dali.
Housed in a neoclassical building located in the heart of the Glasgow city center, this gallery has played an important role in the city’s development and rich history. The Gallery of Modern Art features changing displays inspired by Glasgow itself and also hosts lectures and workshops for the public. The gallery is home to the works of famous Scottish artists such as John Bellany and Ken Currie.
Documenting Glasgow’s outstanding transport collection, this museum was the winner of the 2013 European Museum of the Year Award. The Riverside features over 3,000 objects on display including vintage cars, skateboards, locomotives, and even a Storm Trooper. There is truly something for everyone in this delightful collection.
Located at the University of Glasgow, the Hunterian is the oldest museum in Scotland and covers The Hunterian Museum, The Hunterian Art Gallery, and The Zoology Museum free of charge. Today, the collection includes scientific tools used by Lord Kelvin, Roman artifacts from Antonine Wall, large natural and sciences displays, and one of the largesr numismatic collections in the world.
