1. Il Duomo took about 140 years to build. Il Duomo is also not the official name of the cathedral. The official name is Santa Maria del Fiore.

2. Florence was very damaged during WWII due to bombings. All bridges were destroyed except for Ponte Vecchio, which Hitler allegedly declared as too beautiful to destroy.

3. Florence attracts over 10 million visitors per year.

4. In 1339, Florence became the first city in Europe with paved streets.
