Experiential Learning Abroad and International Internship Departments Combine to Better Serve Student Needs
International Studies Abroad (ISA) has announced that its Experiential Learning Abroad Programs (ELAP) and International Internship Programs have combined to form a new singular division known as ISA Internships and Service-Learning. ISA Internships and Service-Learning aims to help students more simply and effectively identify the type of experiential program that will best fit their personal interests and professional goals.
While ISA has been offering internships and service-learning opportunities for 24 and 13 years respectively, experiential programs have become increasingly relevant for today’s students. “In order to operate in the global economy, employers expect college graduates to have the soft skills to perform within an international context,” says Lauren Alexander, Vice President of ISA Internships and Service-Learning. “Successfully articulating the impact of an international internship or service-learning placement provides students with a competitive edge when seeking jobs after graduation” says Alexander.
ISA Internships focus on the participant’s professional development goals, providing a custom placement process for each candidate. In addition, the ISA Personal Brand Toolbox, which includes individual coaching and a variety of online tools, guides students’ professional development with a specific focus on developing their own personal brand. Academic credit for the program is available through Chapman University.
ISA Service-Learning program placements are designed for students to utilize and develop skills relevant to their field of study, while helping local communities with a variety of needs. Each candidate participates in critical reflection activities and group discussions which contribute to participants’ personal growth and enhanced cultural competency. Academic credit for the program is available through Carroll College.
