Thinking of Studying Abroad in Australia? Why You Should Choose QUT.

Don’t let the name fool you.

The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is about more than just technology. While top-dollar investments have been made to provide the university with state of the art facilities, the school aims to provide students with career-focused, experiential learning environments developed to prepare students for real world work environments. One of the most recent additions to the Garden Point campus is the $230 million dollar Science and Engineering Center, which is home to the world’s largest digital, interactive display—known as The Cube. Towering over two stories high, the Cube consists of fourteen high definition projectors and over forty multi-touch screens and sound technologies; DEFINITELY a conversation for all who encounter it!

Studying a unique major? No problem!

QUT’s Creative Industries department offers study abroad students access to courses within unique majors such as; fashion, film and television, architecture, interactive visual design, entertainment industries (production and entertainment management), mass communication and more! Not only that, but the creative industries department also offers a series of packaged course selections within given disciplines. See examples of the Semester 1 (February-June term) course offerings.

Course offerings don’t stop there!

The University is also home to top-notch marketing and public relations programs and offers additional courses within the education, health, law and justice, business and science and engineering faculties. Course selection at QUT is simplified with pre-approved subjects for study abroad students, yet allows international students to make course selections from their full course catalog too. Brisbane has a lot to offer. Situated on the beautiful Brisbane River and adjacent to the city’s lush Botanic Gardens, QUT’s campus is a short walk from the city center and the city’s beautiful, man-made beach. Taking advantage of that beach, as Brisbane averages over 260 days of sumptuous sunshine each year, the most of any Australian city, and maintains average temperatures between 72-85°F. This mild climate and its proximity to first rate parks greatly influences the city’s culture, with a focus on an active and outdoor focused lifestyle.

Brisbane is also a “hub” city making it easy to travel around both Australia as well as the entire Pacific region; just a short hour train ride to some of the most pristine beaches on the Gold Coast, a 1.5 hour flight from Sydney, a 3 hour flight to Auckland, New Zealand, and much more!

Love sports?

Brisbane offers that too! Home to 62 sports stadiums ranging from cricket to Australian Rules football, you are sure to find a local sporting event to enjoy!
Foodie? No worries, mate! Brisbane has you covered there too with over 3,000 cafes and restaurants throughout the city! So, the question remains… Are you ready to become a Brisbanite? Grab your “budgy smugglers (swimming attire)” and get ready to meet some Aussie mates, because a semester at QUT is sure to be one you will never forget!

Application Deadlines are November 15th!
