Sevilla is a very well known city for students that study abroad. After all, when we think of “traditional Spain,” we think of flamenco, bull fighting, and delicious tapas – and those things are all characteristic of Sevilla. No need to imagine what it must be like, we’ve put together some of our favorite spots to give you a virtual tour of this amazing city!
Plaza de España
This is the Plaza de España, one of our favorite place in Sevilla. Each of those azulejos (tiles) lists a city in Spain. You may recognize the Plaza de España. It appeared in the movies Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, The Dictator, and Lawrence of Arabia!
Los Reales Alcázares
This is Los Reales Alcázares, a royal palace and gardens. This is the perfect spot for an afternoon of studying or relaxing in the sun. Watch out for the peacocks that roam the premises!
La Catedral
The cathedral in Sevilla is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the third largest church in the world. Don’t forget to climb to the top of la Giralda, the bell tower for great panoramic views of Sevilla!
Torre del Oro
The “tower of gold” was once a military watchtower and is now a landmark overlooking the city. It has also become a common meeting spot. Want to meet up with your new intercambio (language exchange partner) in the city center? Meet at the Torre del Oro.
Las Setas
The official name of las setas, which literally means “the mushrooms,” is Metropol Parasol. The nickname comes from the wooden structure’s unique design that appears to be giant mushrooms. It is the largest wooden structure in the world! Below las setas is a market where you can buy your fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers for the day. Climb to the top of the mushrooms, it’s an incredible view over the city (especially at sunset!).
