¡Estoy lista! I am Ready for Salamanca!

“You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

¡Estoy lista!–I’m ready! Or rather–I’m almost ready.

The excitement of leaving has buoyed me through all of the preparations. I’ve finished Spring Semester at my home university (aside from an on-line course-eval). I’ve spent time with all of my close friends (cooking for a number of them). I’ve prayed about my trip with my InterVarsity Christian Fellowship staff-worker. I’ve got comfy, quality sandals, a number of light-weight and modest dresses that should be appropriate for Europe as well as for teaching. My flights are confirmed, I have several photo-copies of my passport, I have a cell-phone for travel, I’ve e-mailed my roommate a few times, I’ve sat through several lectures from my father about safety and precautions, my ISIC card is loaded, I’ve changed my sleeping habits, I have a load of laundry in the wash, a sticky-note of important numbers, and I’m smothering my cat Spock with snuggles.  Earlier today I went to enjoy my favorite local park, so I’ve made all of the goodbyes that I am able to. My main concerns now are the weight of my electrical converter and whether or not I can fit everything that I’d like to into my carry-on.

As I write this I am about 36 hours from leaving for the airport and very much excited, although I am becoming increasingly aware of the extent to which I will miss my loved ones. I greatly anticipate my upcoming adventures and I thank you for following them.

Hasta luego…

Hi everyone! I'm Nicole, or Nikki! This summer I'll be studying Spanish in Salamanca, Spain in order to complete the last few credits of my Spanish major. I'm from the Saginaw Bay area of Michigan and haven't traveled all that much outside of Michigan--so I hope to use this blog to convey wonder and new experiences as I enjoy Spanish life and culture. I might also tend to look at things from a pedagogical, political, or theological point of view because all of these things are important to who I am. I also might talk about food a lot. :) I hope to share some good pictures and have a great time. I hope that you enjoy!

  1. I studied in Salamanca exactly 1 year ago with ISA! Let me know if you know who lives with Angela and Agustin Martin Martinez, usually they give you a list of all the students and who they live with, I’d love to get in contact with them so I can talk to them about my old host family and such!

    1. Hola! This is totally out of the blue and I don’t know if you’ll even get my reply, but I lived with them in 2009! I adored them, especially Tita, but I never wrote after I left Salamanca and I’ve felt so guilty. Have you been in touch? Was Abuelita still alive when you stayed with them?

      1. Oh cool! I got an email notification letting me know someone replied to my comment :) I lived with them fall of 2012, so she might have passed away by then. I wrote them once but never heard back! I’m going to try again though.
