5 Scenes from Peru: Lights, Camera… Cusco?

It’s time to change that mundane backdrop you’ve been walking to class in everyday. There’s no better way to do so than by studying in Cusco, Peru. Don’t believe me? Here are 5 scenes that will change your mind:

Scene Uno: The Coastal Capital

study abroad lima miraflores

You arrive to Peru’s capital city of Lima on the first day of your program and spend the next couple days exploring the vast metropolis. After surfing in Miraflores,

why not head to the city center in Plaza Mayor and get a group picture in front of the Cathedral of Lima?

Scene Dos: The Sacred Valley of the Incas

Spend the Semester or Summer in the ancient Inca capital of Cusco. Nestled in the Andes Mountains, the flight in from Lima is like a National Geographic photo shoot! Fall in love with the narrow cobblestone streets,

learn about Andean history, music, and culture,

and become the next fanatico cuzqueño at a local fútbol match!

Scene Tres: Your New Profile Picture

Don’t miss the epic excursions to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu! Get up close in personal with an Alpaca,

hike up to the top of Huanya Picchu for a better view of the “lost city of the Incas”, or visit Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where the sun aligns perfectly with the city during the summer and winter solstice. We guarantee you’ll have fresh new profile picture!

Scene Cuatro: La Selva

Head east, close to the border of Bolivia on an optional excursion into the Amazon Jungle in Puerto Maldonado. Zip-line through the jungle, stay in a bungalow, and take a boat ride through the Río Madre de Dios!

Scene Cinco: High Altitude H20

Semester students also have the ability to change up their scenery further with an optional excursion to Puno and Lake Titicaca. Venture out to explore the Uros Floating Islands, climb to the top of Amantai, or just bask in the beauty of the snow-capped Cordillera Real of Bolivia!

Why stop there? Many ISA students pursue independent travel after they finish classes. Head north to action packed Panama City, Panama or south to the rich Bohemian port of Valparaíso, Chile. With one of the largest international airports in South America in Lima, Peru, the rest of the continent is at your finger tips!

Plug into the ISA Cusco Facebook page and see pictures of how current and past students have changed their scenery around. Check out this video from Summer 2012 student Kristine Deleon on how she decided to switch her surroundings and make memories she’ll never forget!
