This will be my second time studying abroad but my first time staying in one country for the full semester. Before, I was only able to visit each country for a week or so; I’m looking forward to being able to truly experience and live in one place. My name is Demetria Ober. I am 21 years old and currently study at Texas Woman’s University in Denton Texas. I am pursuing a major in social work and my minor is in medical Spanish interpretation. I am a first generation college student that also happens to experience the disability of blindness. I have decided to embark on a studies abroad experience because I am hoping to not only become a fluent Spanish speaker, but also push myself in many ways with the hopes of achieving independence and self-confidence within my capabilities. I have decided to study abroad in Granada Spain for the fall 2021 – spring 2022 academic school year. I have also made the courageous decision to not bring my service dog of which I have had for the past three years. This is the ultimate test for me, and I am excited to share my journey and experiences with you!

I am a first-generation, Moroccan-American student at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. I’m majoring in Communication Studies, with minors in International Studies and Arabic Studies. I love studying languages, including practicing the local dialect of Arabic in Morocco (Darija). When I’m not in class, I like to play guitar, watch true crime, and wander about the city!
