I spent last weekend in Rome, doing as the Romans do. Come along and see what it’s like!
A bright start to the warmest day of the semester thus far, the sun shining brightly and not a cloud in the sky.First stop is the Porta Portese market, which happens every Sunday morning, with vendors as far as the eye can see. You can really find everything here!Amongst the trinkets and clothes, a wall of well-loved mirrors stood out, making the narrow market streets feel bigger than they were.I hope everyone can look at a bobble like some of these and be pulled back into the nostalgic bliss we were today!I made it a point to take the scenic route to our next stop! There is something special about Rome, knowing you are among the ruins of an empire long since passed. My first time walking up the Spanish Steps, I can’t help but remember that an entirely different era of history is represented by the stairs. For such a beautiful day, the steps weren’t too busy.Next stop, Villa Borghese! What’s better than spending such a beautiful day in these huge swaths of green? It was such a surprise to see such a serene pond here! The Romans around me were rowing, laughing, and playing soft music so everyone could enjoy their Sunday moments of peace. This was a very popular spot, especially for the animals! There were endless geese, birds, turtles, etc., vying for the attention and food from their visitors. The villa seemed endless at times, with new magic to discover at every location. Some of the first blossoms I saw this year! People spread out on the grass, just soaking up the sun, inspired me to seek out nature for the rest of my time abroad. At the end of a long day walking all over Rome, there was no better end than a vibrant sunset that was, to me, uniquely Roman.
