Live. Love. London!

Welcome to London, a city where history meets modernity in a seamless blend of old-world and contemporary charm. From its iconic landmarks like Big Ben and the London Eye to its food markets and diverse neighborhoods, there’s something for everyone in this dynamic metropolis. And there was certainly something for me! Whether you’re a history nerd or a foodie, London offers endless opportunities for exploration and discovery. So grab your fish and chips and get ready to uncover the magic of this vibrant city through my eyes.

My friends and I decided to go to London for a weekend, and it was one of our best trips while studying abroad in Milan thus far. The first stop in this beautiful city was seeing the Big Ben! As we emerged from the bustling Westminster Underground station, the enormity of the iconic clock tower took our breath away. Its majestic silhouette stood tall against the London skyline, a symbol of the city’s rich history and timeless charm. We stood there in awe, snapping countless photos and marveling at the intricate details of its architecture. It was a moment of realization that we were truly experiencing the magic of London, and it set the tone for an unforgettable weekend ahead.

After soaking in the grandeur of Big Ben, I couldn’t resist the classic tourist tradition of snapping photos in one of London’s iconic red telephone booths, conveniently located not too far from the clock tower. With its red hue contrasting against the blue London sky, the booth lured me to capture a piece of its nostalgic charm. Stepping inside, I found myself transported to another era, surrounded by the simplicity of a telephone booth amidst the modern hustle of the city. With laughter, I squeezed into the booth, striking poses and taking endless amount of selfies and group pictures with my friends. Each click of the camera immortalized not only our faces but also the excitement of being in London with each other making memories that would last a lifetime.

After a fun and adventurous afternoon, I decided to attend my first musical at London’s Cambridge Theatre, which was such a memorable experience. Watching “Matilda” come to life onstage that evening was truly captivating. The excitement in the theater was contagious as the lights dimmed and the curtain rose to reveal the colorful set. From the moment the band filled the air with different notes, I was hooked. The talented cast transported us into the magical world of Roald Dahl’s beloved story, and I found myself completely immersed in the adventures of Matilda and her classmates. Each song and dance was executed with precision and, leaving, the audience in complete awe. As the story unfolded, I couldn’t help but be swept away by the heartfelt performances and the energy of the cast. It was a night filled with laughter, awe, and a deep appreciation for the artistry of live theater. Watching “Matilda” in London was an experience I’ll always treasure, marking the beginning of my newfound love for musicals.

The following day in London was a vibrant tapestry of experiences, starting with my visit to Notting Hill. As I walked along its cobbled streets, I was greeted with a riot of color from the charming houses lining the lanes. Each house told its own unique story form the other, and I couldn’t resist taking countless photos against the backdrop of the neighborhood’s iconic architecture. Each step forward I paused to admire the unique beauty of each painted door and flower-adorned balcony. Notting Hill’s eclectic charm left an indelible impression, a snapshot of authentic London life I was grateful to have experienced.

Later, my and my friends’ appetites led us to Borough Market, a culinary paradise in the heart of the city. The air was filled with the aroma of spices and sizzling chicken as we navigated the long line of food kiosks. From artisanal cheeses to freshly baked bread, the market tantalized our senses at every turn. However, I knew with everything I tried at the market, I had to save for last the famous strawberry with milk chocolate in a cup. With eager anticipation, I indulged in this delectable treat, savoring the sweetness of ripe strawberries coated in velvety chocolate. Each bite was a symphony of flavors that danced on my tongue and left me craving more. As my friends and I savored this culinary delight, surrounded by the buzzing energy of Borough Market, we knew that our day in London had been nothing short of extraordinary.

As our weekend in London came to an end, we decided to have our final dinner in Chinatown the following day. It seemed like the perfect way to wrap up our trip, enjoying a taste of Chinese cuisine before heading home. We walked through the streets of Chinatown, taking in the sights and sounds of this neighborhood. Eventually, we settled on a restaurant that TikTok recommended and, over plates of noodles and fried rice, laughed and reminisced about the adventures we had shared over the past few days. It was a simple yet satisfying end to our London getaway, filled with good food and even better company.

Until next time, mate!
