4 Facts About Florence that will Blow Your Mind

1. Il Duomo took about 140 years to build. Il Duomo is also not the official name of the cathedral. The official name is Santa Maria del Fiore.

No matter how many times I see Il Duomo, it always seems so massive to me.

2. Florence was very damaged during WWII due to bombings. All bridges were destroyed except for Ponte Vecchio, which Hitler allegedly declared as too beautiful to destroy.

3. Florence attracts over 10 million visitors per year.

4. In 1339, Florence became the first city in Europe with paved streets.
