Summer Pathways Scholarship
Ashley Blimling | University of Nebraska-Lincoln | Athens, Greece
I am a junior studying Business Administration, minoring in Classics, and pursuing a Certificate in Sales at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I love stories of all kinds and am not afraid to show my love for my fandoms.
Organized and strategic, I have learned that I work best in an environment where I am allowed to take control of things and implement my own ideas. My experiences have given me many opportunities to better myself over the years. It is through these exposures that I have decided that I would like to open my own small business in the future. Somewhere where I can let all of my ideas run free and have my own system of order set in place.
[In Athens,] I am most looking forward to visiting the places that I have been reading about. I can’t wait to see the Temple of Poseidon and the Parthenon.
For me, a scholarship is a lifeline. I have four little siblings, and the cost of things just keeps going up. I am so glad to have found these opportunities and to have been accepted for [the Summer Pathways] Scholarship. Every acceptance message I get takes a huge weight off my chest.
Emily Butts | West Virginia University | San José, Costa Rica
I go to West Virginia University where I am an International Studies, emphasis in International Development, and Spanish double major with a minor in General Business. I am inspired by my international community at my university where I get to become immersed in so many traditions, customs, and cultures. I also love hiking, biking and being outdoors!
I am looking forward to immersing myself in a homestay experience and pursuing a deeper understanding of the Spanish language and culture through my courses at Universidad Veritas and other additional excursions. I am also excited to explore the city’s diverse array of live music, cuisine and adventure. I am looking forward to making new friends and new memories!
This scholarship means that I do not have to let finances hinder me from broadening and gaining enriching experiences that will contribute greatly to my academic and professional career. I am able to further pursue my global competencies and global fluency. This scholarship will allow me to share and invite others into what I have learned for years to come.
Creighton Harrington | Chadron State College | Málaga, Spain
I am a current sophomore Human Biology major at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. I am hoping to start a club centered around study abroad and travel at my college, as not many students study abroad here. I hope to spread my experience to many of my fellow classmates and help them have the experience of a lifetime as well!
My commitment to being involved and helping others began in my upbringing. Going to Malaga, Spain, will be a completely different experience than anything I have ever done. It has always been a dream of mine to study abroad, and I chose Spain because I wanted to improve my Spanish skills. To me, Malaga’s program seemed like the perfect place to learn Spanish, experience a completely different culture, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I am most excited to meet all the new people and spend time at la playa!
This scholarship means so much to me. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to study abroad, and getting a scholarship to help with the expenses makes me even more thankful. Paying for study abroad is one of the biggest barriers that prevents students from experiencing a study abroad trip, so sponsors that provide scholarships to help with this burden are so appreciated. Since I am not receiving aid for this experience, the scholarship provided by ISA has helped me immensely. The Summer Pathways Scholarship is helping me reach my dream of studying abroad, and I am so thankful for ISA’s commitment to providing students with opportunities for scholarships like this one!
Other winners include Ruby Bates (Diversity Scholarship), Cheyenne McGary (Diversity Scholarship), and Lillian Vinson (Community Engagement Scholarship). Congratulations from the ISA team!
