I’m counting down the days before I embark on this crazy study abroad adventure in Galway, Ireland! With two weeks before my departure, I am trying to prepare myself by finishing last minute packing for a month away from home. To be honest: packing is hard! I don’t know what the weather will be like, what the acceptable fashion is in Galway, how to make style meet comfort and how to do all of this in one suitcase. I’ve been researching what to expect for Galway’s summer weather and what kind of clothing I should pack to make sure I don’t stick out in my dress.

Ireland’s weather can be very unpredictable. Luckily, I’m used to this after living in Ohio! My advice for anyone planning on studying abroad is to set out a variety of clothing to meet your needs in any kind of weather. Make sure the clothing is easy to layer and can be mixed and matched. I am packing several pairs of jeans, leggings and a few pairs of shorts that can be used with a variety of tops and sweaters. I also packed a few nice dresses for special occasions. I’m avoiding packing bright, neon colors and any clothing that might be considered too unconventional. A rain jacket and umbrella are musts as well as comfortable walking shoes and sunglasses for the sunnier summer days.

Without researching what the weather is like in the summer months in Ireland, I would have had a very difficult time packing. I can’t believe I leave in two weeks and I am hopeful that my research will pay off! Packing for an entire month of unpredictable weather is not easy, but I think my strategy of layers and modesty will work in my favor.
